Beautiful Tock!

I LOVE these Korean rice cakes! In Korean, it is called Tock. There are various kind of Korean rice cake. Korean people eat Tock on New Year's day. I wish I could eat this rice cake in Korea.

It tastes sweet, but not too sweet. People usually eat this Tock with tea. These Tock contain a lot of protein. I really miss these Tock. When I was an elementary school student, I used to eat these rice cake every New Year's day. And New Year's day is drawing near.

Also, there are various Birthday cakes made by Tock.
I have never eaten this birthday cake made by rice cake, but I really want to try when I go to Korea. It looks very beautiful and delicious!
If you spend your birth day in Korea, I recommend you to eat this birthday rice cake not normal cake. It is cheaper than Japanese normal cake :)

Japchae

This time, I'd like to show you Japchae, typical Korean food. Korean people cook this when they serve their guest with a variety of dishes. So you can see this dish on special day such as New Year's day and someone's birthday.

How to cook this Japchae is something like this;

First, you have to cook noodles in hot water for a few minutes, and stir-fry vegitables and meats.

After that, mix them up.It looks so simple, but it's one of very elaborate dishes for Korean people. So my mother hardly tries to cook Japchae. But my grandmother used to cook this for us when we were small.

Although it takes so much time to cook Japchae, it really tastes good. I'm sure you'll like it.

Tegu is for this!!

This time, I'd like to talk about Machang. Machang is a food which my hometown Tegu is famous for. I had never tried that until I went to Korea last summer. Machang is internal organs! It looks like something very awful. So I refused to eat that, when I'm in Tegu. But when my sister tried to eat the Machang and told me it was good, I tried it. It was good. People come all the way to eat this Machang!

This is only 6000 in Korea. So it is only about 500 yen in Japan.Very cheap! If you go to Tegu, you should try this Machang!!

Kimpa!

This time, I'd like to show you what I made yesterday. Yesterday, I wanted to cook by myself, but it was too late night to go to buy some ingredients. So I decided to cook Kimpa which is Korean famous food like Sushi in Japan. But the ingredients is totally different, because I just made a new versiton of Kimpa. (Actually, there were not the ingredients of Kimpa in my house.)

The upper one is the rice mixed sesame oil and salt and sesame. The bottom one are Tuna, eggs and kimchi.

First, you have to prepare a sheet of laver. Then you just spread the rice out on the laver.
After that, just put the ingredients, tuna and eggs and kimchi in a row.
And you roll up that with your hand. Then you cut them moderate size. Be careful when you cut using your knife.

That's it!! too easy! :) and the taste is also good!! my mother really liked this kimpa which I have cooked with my idea.

These are all I used for cooking this food. Actually, this is my first time to cook kimpa. But it was good, so I want to cook this frequently because it's so easy to cook and does not take so much time!
I cooked this kimpa in 30minutes even though I have never cooked this but just watched my mom cooking. You should try! I can do this, so can you! :)

My Favorite Snack.

This time, I'd like to introduce hotok in Korea. This food is my one of favorite food, it's like a snack. When I was small, my grandmother used to cook this for me. There are some honey syrup in Hotok. We can eat it only winter. It really tastes good when you are outside in winter. It is very hot so be careful when you eat hotok. It's like ice cream in summer. I really miss this food. I can't eat this food since I have come to Japan. There is nothing like hotok. The hotok which was made by my grandmother is the most delicious snack I have ever eaten. You can find this if you go to Korea during winter season. When I went to Korea this summer vacation, I could not eat because the wether was too hot to eat hotok. Recently, I found there was new kind of Hotok. The new one is called vegitable hotok. There are some vegitable in hotok so it is healthy too. I have never tried that one. So if I go to Korea this winter break, I will try it!

A flat-GYOUZA

This is what I ate almost everyday in Korea durng this summer break. When I got Korea, and call my mom to tell that we arrived Korea safely. Then she first said "Okay. And please bring the flat-gyoza home when you come back to Japan. I really miss the food. "

Yes, this gyouza is only in Tegu which is my hometown. So Tegu is famous for this flat-gyouza. It is called Napchak Mandu. "Mandu" is gyouza in Japanese, and "Napchak" means flat. When we eat this one, we usually put special sauce on the gyouza. Or as you can see the previous food in my blog, Toppoki, it is also good match with this flat-gyoza. Please try this one, if you come to Tegu. :) You can see this one easily in my hometown.

My sister, Areum, also like this food very much, we bought this food so much for my family. Maybe, the amount is almost two month we can eat this in Japan.haha Because after we come back to Japan, we have to wait for a year again to eat this food!
If you wanna try this one, please tell me. ;) I'll bring this to school after I cook this one in my house, or my mom does. haha :)

My favorite food~

This time, I want to introduce one of my favorite Korean food.

It's TOBOKKI!! It tastes sooooo good!

Maybe, I think everyone in Korea likes Tobokki! I've never heard a person who doesn't like Tobokki.

My mom loves that food too, so sometimes, she cooks us Tobokki. When we are eating that, Areum and I don't talk with each other, because it tastes so good. we are just busy to eat!

I want to cook Tobokki by myself, but it is difficult for me to cook. X(

My mom taught me how to cook Tobokki, but everytime I cooked the one, it tastes strange. I mean, not so as delicious as my mom's Tobokki. So my mom gave up to teach cooking Tobokki. haha

You can eat in variety of Tobokki, like topping cheese, or noodles. It is more delicious! :)

Do you know the most hottest Tobokki in Korea? It's called SHIN Tobokki, and it's sooo hot!
I have tried the one when I went to Korea, but it's too hot to eat. So I gave up. You need much water!!
If you like hot food, you should try~!!

Wow....

What do think about this food? This is the pupa stage which is so more tender and formless than actual bug stage.

BUT! I don't really like this. Anyway, it's bug... In China, people eat a frog and In the Republic of South Africa, people eat a rat. Likewise in Korea, people eat a pupa.
It is called Bondegi in Korean. Bondegi is a very famous bug food in Korea. Surprisingly, young people in Korea like this more than old people.

If you go to Soul which is capital city of Korea, you can see Bondegi food easily! People eat the pupa as something to go with sake when they drink a beer or shochu.

Well...it's hard to say, I have eaten this Bondegi... I hate the bug food like I said, but when I lived in Korea, I was too small to aware what the Bondegi is so my uncle and my aunt tricked me into eating the Bondegi saying
"Hey, this is a new snack,Poreum. Have a try!! Everybody says it's dellicious!"

Yes. I tried it. I didn't know it was made of bug! Because it was a snack-looking. My uncle and my aunt and even my grandmother were laughing to see me eat that!

Of course not only me, but also my sister Areum ate that.haha

The next day, my back began to itch. Then my arm also began to itch. The itch moved to my face. The Bondegi set off my allergy. I scratched the itchy place hard. And I was just crying. Strangely, my sister Areum is okay at all. She was in a normal state.

Soon my uncle took me to the hospital and my allergy went away. It was then that I realized they'd tricked me. So still now, I hate this pupa food, I have never tried the Bondegi since I went to hospital.

But my mother and father like this, They often eat this in Korea when they go to Korea.

Do you want to try?

You can buy a canned food which is full of pupa. But remember, if you have any allergy of bug, I advise you not to eat that. :)

If you are tired, try it!

Are you tired? When I got tired, my grandmother used to cook Samgetang for me. Samgetang is very famous for traditional protective foods. This dish is made of Chicken.
Samgetang is a lot of trouble dish because it needs a lot of time amd energy to cook! That's why I hardly eat that in my house...but when I go to Korea, my grandmother like cooking this dish for us. I LOVE my grandmother. :)

There are not only chicken but also a lot of ingredients like rice and chestnuts and chinese date and rice cake in Samgetang. Samgetang has all of nourishing ingredients in it.

I think there is no dish like Samgetang in Japan . So if you visit Korea, you should eat Samgetang first! It tastes so good, I love it. So when summer comes, people eat Samgetang in Korea. But Samgetang is expensive, it costs about 2oooyen in Japanese money. But after you eat that, you will be full of energy. :)

There are many dish which there is not Japan but Korea, so I think I can make much money if I have a Korean restaurant!

So please come to my restaurant if I have in the future. :) I'll entertain you for free! haha

BUT, do you want to try Samgetang before I have a restaurant?

I have a good news for you. ;)
There is instant food of Samgetang.

Just boil this one for 10minutes. So you won't take a lot of time, and you can eat soon!

Wakame can be hint someone's birthday!

Did you know Korean peopole eat wakame soup on their birthday? I really don't care what day it is today...that's my bad habit. So I often forget my birthday! either do my sister. One day when I was in Korea, I didn't know that day was my birthday. But I realized soon because my grandmother cooked wakame soup for me in the morning!

In Korea, people eat wakame soup in their birthday, so it means the day when they eat wakame soup in the morning indicates that the day their birthday! I think this custom originated from Korean people in the old days ate wakame soup when woman gave birth to a baby.
So, still my mother cooks this for us on our birthday. That's like a traditional thing in Korea. So even though I cannot cook wakame soup by myself, I should be able to cook wakame soup at least, because I wanna prepare wakame soup for my mother on her birthday.
Also as you know, wakame is very healthy seaweed. So I recommend you to eat wakame soup if you are on diet! :) I do like wakame soup because that is the very food which is good and healthy.

My great dinner

Recently, I and my sister, Areum had a poor appetite. So we didn't eat so much during dinner. Then my mom asked us 'what's wrong with both of you??' We answered ' Nothing.'

Next day, my mom cooked these dish, and that went as we expected. Actually, I just wanted to eat meat or something special food!

Sorry mom...But we need a special meal once in a month. haha

So this is SAMGYOPSAL in Korean. SAMGYOPSAL is pork and we eat that with a lettuce. And my mom is good at cooking a Korean MISO soup. So there was also MISO soup too. My one of favorite dinner set!

When I was small in Korea, my grandmother cooked SAMGYOPSAL and MISO soup for me and my sister. So every time when I eat this, I miss my grandmother. That reminds my family in Korea.

Unfortunately, in Japan, there are few people who know about SAMGYOPSAL and eat. Why don't people know this fantastic food?? Someone should spread this food to Japanese people. The restaurant must work out! :) I'm sure I will cook it for my child in the future. So I have to learn how to cook from my mom!

Unbelievable!!

Do you know what this is? It is a dog dish! As you know, many people eat a dog dish In Korea, because it is said a dog dish is very nourishing! One day, when I came home and I felt so tired. I didn't wanna eat anything. Then my mom said to me 'You seem so tired. You should eat BOSHINTAN. (It is a dog dish's name.)'
As soon as I heard what my mom said, I said 'I will eat something. Suddenly, I'm full of energy mom :) Please don't say eat BOSHINTAN'

I hate Korean's traditional dish, BOSHINTAN. I asked my friend of mine who lives in Korea by Email, 'Have you eaten Boshintan? How's that? Does it taste good?' Then my friend said, 'First I hate Boshintan, but to tell the truth, that tastes so good. You should try it. After you eat that, you will feel better. ' I couldn't say anything.
Wow...oh my god... people eat a dog..How poor thing!
I LOVE dogs, so I will never eat it as ever.
Do you wanna try? Please don't say 'it tastes good and we can eat even dogs too. Think about it, We already ate the chicken, cow and pig.' Now, I feel guilty....

Yesterday Poreum's dinner

This is a very famous for korean food called Dolso Bibinba. Dolso means asbestos. And it is very hot. So when you eat a Dolso Bibinba, be careful your hand. There are spinach and bean sprouts and so many vegetables. We usually eat it after mixing together as it stands. But in my family, we ate it all except the bottom of rice. Then there are left some scorched part of boiled rice. Then my mom brings some hot water or hot green tea, and she pours in Dolso. That tastes vry good, to tell the truth, I like better the last rice than rice mixed vegetables. There was a savory smell of scorched part of boiled rice. You should try it!

Today's your dinner should be Dolso Bibinba!
